ABOUT MERIDIAN BEHAVIORAL HEALTH

Based in the Twin Cities area of Minneapolis-St. Paul, Meridian Behavioral Health is one of the fastest growing, leading behavioral healthcare platforms in the country. Meridian provides acute psychiatric and substance abuse treatment services across a broad continuum of care, including in-patient, residential, out-patient and medication-assisted treatment. James K. Smith

Chief Administrative Officer

James joined Meridian Behavioral Health in early February, 2014, bringing extensive leadership experience spanning operations, performance improvement and business development.

James joined Meridian Behavioral Health in early February, 2014, bringing extensive leadership experience spanning operations, performance improvement and business development. Formerly with Allina Health, James provided operational leadership for the Allina Mental/Chemical Health Clinical Service Line for nearly 300 inpatient/residential beds across 11 hospitals, 33 integrated primary care clinics, 3 hospital-based clinics, and the emergency room assessment and referral staff across the Allina Health System. James also launched a Patient Advisory Council, led formal and informal structures for cross-functional collaboration and initiatives around patient care, population health, patient affordability, etc. James is currently responsible for all clinical operations (Residential, Psychiatric, Medication-Assisted Treatment, Outpatient), human resources, compliance, access, utilization review, etc. James has his Bachelor of Science, in Business Administration, from Cardinal Stritch University and has his Masters in Organizational Design & Change Leadership from the University of St. Thomas.

When not working, James enjoys kayaking, fishing, hiking and spending time with his family.

Brian Hill

Chief Operating Officer

Brian joined Meridian Behavioral Health in April, 2019, bringing extensive leadership experience spanning operations, business development and clinical. He brings broad healthcare experience that includes 22+ years in military leadership and 14 years in multi-site business leadership

Brian joined Meridian Behavioral Health in April, 2019, bringing extensive leadership experience spanning operations, business development and clinical. He brings broad healthcare experience that includes 22+ years in military leadership and 14 years in multi-site business leadership. Most recently, Brian was Region President for Encompass Health leading operations for 90 locations across 19 states with budget of $350MM. Prior to Encompass, Brian held multiple operations leadership roles with Gentiva Health Services overseeing 60 locations in four states, as well as clinical roles at Shands Home Care and Mease Sports Medicine Center. Brian is an experienced builder of high functioning teams, and is a highly effective change agent who drives strategy and focus across organizations. Brian also achieved the rank of Major in the Army, with a 20 years of service including 8 years of active duty and 12 years in the Reserves. He is a graduate of Military Intelligence Academy, Officer Basic and Advanced Leadership Academies. Brian has a Bachelor of Health Science degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Florida and an Executive MBA from Kennesaw State University.

When not working, Brian enjoys travel and is passionate about Crossfit training.

Randy joined Meridian Behavioral Health in April 2016, and he brings extensive global IT leadership experience. In addition to Meridian, his experience spans work at UnitedHealth Group, GE, MoneyGram

Randy joined Meridian Behavioral Health in April 2016, and he brings extensive global IT leadership experience. In addition to Meridian, his experience spans work at UnitedHealth Group, GE, MoneyGram and MatrixCare providing leadership and collaboration towards business excellence and revenue growth. Randy has a BS, Systems Management from Colorado Technical University and a MA, Human Resources Development from Webster University. Randy began his technology career in the US Air Force, while assigned to Cheyenne Mountain Air Station in Colorado Springs.

When he is not working, Randy enjoys boating on Lake Minnetonka, cooking, and traveling.

Stephanie joined Meridian Behavioral Health in February 2017 as Vice President – Finance/Controller after spending over eight years in multiple financial and accounting roles at Imation Corp.

Stephanie joined Meridian Behavioral Health in February 2017 as Vice President – Finance/Controller after spending over eight years in multiple financial and accounting roles at Imation Corp. Prior to Imation, she worked at AGA Medical Corp after spending over five years honing her accounting skills at KPMG. Stephanie received he BS in Business with a major in Accounting and minor in Finance at the University of Minnesota Curtis L. Carlson School of Management in Minneapolis, MN.

When not working, Stephanie enjoys spending time with her family and friends, playing and watching tennis, and trying new restaurants.

Scott Redden

Vice President, Human Resources

Scott Redden joined Meridian Behavioral Health in June of 2016. As the Vice President of Human Resources, he brings over 25 years of human resource experience in a variety of industries.

Scott Redden joined Meridian Behavioral Health in June of 2016. As the Vice President of Human Resources, he brings over 25 years of human resource experience in a variety of industries. Most recently, Scott was the Head of Human Resources at BTD, the largest subsidiary of Otter Tail Corporation. Prior to that, he held Vice President roles at SunOpta and Agropur, both multinational companies. Scott has also held HR management roles at Dean Foods, Donaldson Company, Pentair, Emerson Electric, and began his human resources career at Healtheast. Scott holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Speech Communications & Business from the University of Minnesota, and continued his education by completing the MBA Essentials program at the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.

When not working, Scott loves spending time at his cabin in the Northwoods of Minnesota, water skiing, swimming, hiking and canoeing with his family, as well as watching his two sons play soccer.

John brings extensive healthcare and consumer marketing experience with a variety of top brands, including: AT&T, Boston Scientific, Capella University, Delta Airlines, GlaxoSmithKline, Hefty, Kmart, and Merck, New Jersey Anti-Tobacco program and Park Nicollet. John received his BA in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his MBA in Marketing and Strategic Management University of Minnesota Curtis L. Carlson School of Management.

When not working, John loves playing and watching sports (he played football and baseball in college), spending time with his family and working on his house.

Chris received his BS in Psychology from North Dakota State University and an MBA in Health Care Management Administration from Capella University.

When not working, Chris enjoys spending time with his young children and family.

Shelley has a strong track record as a change agent and leader. She received her BS in Human Services with a focus on Alcohol and Drug Counseling from Metropolitan State University. Shelley is passionate about recovery and competition of any kind.

Most recently, Brian was the CFO at Valhalla Place prior to Meridian’s acquisition. Prior to that, Brian was CFO and lead accountant for a consortium of medical device companies, as well as a managing CPA for HLB Tautges Redpath. Brian received his BS in Accounting from University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire.

When not working, Brian enjoys spending time with his young children, golfing and working on his hobby farm.
