ABOUT MERIDIAN BEHAVIORAL HEALTH

Based in the Minneapolis-St. Paul Twin Cities area, Meridian Behavioral Health is one of the fastest growing, leading behavioral healthcare platforms in the country. Meridian provides psychiatric and substance abuse treatment services across a broad continuum of care, which includes in-patient, residential, out-patient and medication-assisted treatment. Today, Meridian has five brands with over 20 locations throughout Minnesota, North Dakota and Maryland. Francis (Fran) Sauvageau

President & Chief Executive Officer

Fran joined Meridian as a leader and investor in 2010. He has held many key executive positions throughout his thirty-plus year career where he has initiated significant business development projects,

Fran joined Meridian as a leader and investor in 2010. He has held many key executive positions throughout his thirty-plus year career where he has initiated significant business development projects, managed large psychiatric treatment and medical surgical facilities, and helped to develop several new healthcare companies. He brings to the position more than 30 years of experience leading and consulting behavioral health and health care organizations serving adolescents and adults programs with organizations both big and small.

Prior to joining MBH, Fran was a Divisional President with Psychiatric Solutions, managing 13 multi-level behavioral health hospitals across six states with total revenues in excess of $400 million. Previously, Fran was a founding partner in Lighthouse Care Centers, LLC where he and his partners built an adolescent psychiatric care business with 5 locations in the southeast. Fran also served over 6 years as a Medical Services Corps Officer in the United States Air Force attaining rank of Captain. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Clemson University and Masters in Public Administration from Webster University. Fran currently serves on the board for the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital and National Association of Psychiatric Health Systems (NAPHS).

Outside of work, Fran loves cheering on his Clemson Tigers, exploring new restaurants and spending time with his family.

James K. Smith

Chief Operating Officer

James joined Meridian Behavioral Health in early February, 2014, bringing extensive leadership experience spanning operations, performance improvement and business development.

James joined Meridian Behavioral Health in early February, 2014, bringing extensive leadership experience spanning operations, performance improvement and business development. Formerly with Allina Health, James provided operational leadership for the Allina Mental/Chemical Health Clinical Service Line for nearly 300 inpatient/residential beds across 11 hospitals, 33 integrated primary care clinics, 3 hospital-based clinics, and the emergency room assessment and referral staff across the Allina Health System. James also launched a Patient Advisory Council, led formal and informal structures for cross-functional collaboration and initiatives around patient care, population health, patient affordability, etc. James is currently responsible for all clinical operations (Residential, Psychiatric, Medication-Assisted Treatment, Outpatient), human resources, compliance, access, utilization review, etc. James has his Bachelor of Science, in Business Administration, from Cardinal Stritch University and has his Masters in Organizational Design & Change Leadership from the University of St. Thomas.

When not working, James enjoys kayaking, fishing, hiking and spending time with his family.

Paula Nelson

Chief Financial Officer

Paula joined Meridian in late 2012, bringing over 28 years of healthcare experience in academic, non-profit and for-profit organizations, and 22 years in senior leadership positions.

Paula joined Meridian in late 2012, bringing over 28 years of healthcare experience in academic, non-profit and for-profit organizations, and 22 years in senior leadership positions. Her broad healthcare experience includes CFO of a non-profit community hospital with four primary care clinics and a foundation, CFO of First Home Care, a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, Finance Director for the University of Minnesota Medical School, and interim CFO of a Community Health Center. Paula received an accounting degree from Minnesota State University, Moorhead and an Executive MBA from the University of St. Thomas – Opus College of Business. In addition, Paula has served as President of the Healthcare Financial Management Association – Minnesota Chapter (HFMA), was a member of the Finance Committee with the Minnesota Hospital Association, and was as an Adjunct Professor at the University of St. Francis.

When not working, Paula loves to garden, cook and spend time with her grandsons.

Sean joined Meridian Behavioral Health in early 2016, bringing over 20 years of corporate finance and business building experience. Sean was previously the Chief Development Officer at Midwest Dental, a high growth, group dental practice based in the upper Midwest. During his tenure there their network grew from 45 to more than 150 clinics, expanded its footprint from 4 to 12 states, and created career opportunities for hundreds of dentists, hygienists and auxiliary staff. Sean has a passion for building collegial relationships with independent operators and small business owners who are considering their strategic alternatives or seeking guidance on how to improve the operations of their business in order to maximize long-term value. He received a BA in Economics from Macalester College.

Outside of work, Sean loves to mountain bike, hike, and spend time with his three daughters.

Dr. Bud Lile

Chief Medical Officer

Bud Lile joined Meridian in Chief Medical Officer at Meridian Behavioral Health’s, and is charged with driving enhanced clinical oversight and outcomes as well as world-class,

Bud Lile joined Meridian in Chief Medical Officer at Meridian Behavioral Health’s, and is charged with driving enhanced clinical oversight and outcomes as well as world-class, evidenced-based care across its continuum. Bud is Board Certified in Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine. He is also licensed to prescribe Buprenorphine. Previously, he worked at Allina as Medical Director of Unity Hospitals Substance Abuse Services. While at Allina, in addition to his role as Medical Director, Bud was Chairman of the Alcohol Use Disorders Detox Subcommittee and Physical Champion/Lead of the Patient Satisfaction Committee. He is also a frequent speaker and lecturer throughout the country. Bud began his medical career at Texas Treatment Centers in Houston while he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Texas. He later moved to Vermont and worked in multiple roles including Chief of Addiction Medicine Services at the Rutland Regional Medical Center before moving to the Twin Cities. Bud received his undergraduate degree from Baylor University in Houston and his medical degree (MD) from the University of Texas in Houston.

When not working, Bud loves traveling, movies and spending time with family.

Randy joined Meridian Behavioral Health in April 2016, and he brings extensive global IT leadership experience. In addition to Meridian, his experience spans work at UnitedHealth Group, GE, MoneyGram

Randy joined Meridian Behavioral Health in April 2016, and he brings extensive global IT leadership experience. In addition to Meridian, his experience spans work at UnitedHealth Group, GE, MoneyGram and MatrixCare providing leadership and collaboration towards business excellence and revenue growth. Randy has a BS, Systems Management from Colorado Technical University and a MA, Human Resources Development from Webster University. Randy began his technology career in the US Air Force, while assigned to Cheyenne Mountain Air Station in Colorado Springs.

When he is not working, Randy enjoys boating on Lake Minnetonka, cooking, and traveling.

Stephanie joined Meridian Behavioral Health in February 2017 as Vice President – Finance/Controller after spending over eight years in multiple financial and accounting roles at Imation Corp.

Stephanie joined Meridian Behavioral Health in February 2017 as Vice President – Finance/Controller after spending over eight years in multiple financial and accounting roles at Imation Corp. Prior to Imation, she worked at AGA Medical Corp after spending over five years honing her accounting skills at KPMG. Stephanie received he BS in Business with a major in Accounting and minor in Finance at the University of Minnesota Curtis L. Carlson School of Management in Minneapolis, MN.

When not working, Stephanie enjoys spending time with her family and friends, playing and watching tennis, and trying new restaurants.

Charles (Chuck) Hilger

Vice President, Medication-Assisted Treatment

Chuck joined Meridian Behavioral Health in February 2016 as is the Vice President, Clinical Service Line, Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) and has worked in the behavioral health field for over 15 years.

Chuck joined Meridian Behavioral Health in February 2016 as is the Vice President, Clinical Service Line, Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) and has worked in the behavioral health field for over 15 years. Prior to Meridian, spent over seven years at Valhalla Place, a leader in MAT, most recently as a Vice President. Chuck began his career as an Addictions Counselor, and his work spans work with Colonial Management Group (CMG), House of Charity and Dakota County. He is a former faculty member of Argosy University where he taught in the Masters of Clinical Psychology program. Chuck received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin River Falls and his Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of St Thomas/St Catherine’s in St. Paul MN. He also serves on the Board of Governors for the Minnesota Association of Resources for Recovery and Chemical Health (MARRCH), he has served on state advisory committees for DHS, and is a board member for two local behavioral health organizations.

Outside of work, Chuck loves spending time with his family, cycling, and hunting/fishing.

Matt Landis

Vice President, Compliance

Matt joined Meridian as Vice President of Compliance in March 2016 and brings extensive experience in corporate governance and compliance as well as healthcare law and policy.

Matt joined Meridian as Vice President of Compliance in March 2016 and brings extensive experience in corporate governance and compliance as well as healthcare law and policy. In addition to Meridian, Matt’s experience spans work at Hill-Rom, University of Minnesota, Wisconsin Department of Health and ActivStyle. He received his BA in Biology and Chemistry from Lawrence University, MS in Epidemiology and Public Health from The University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health, as well as his JD in Health Care Law and Compliance from Mitchell Hamline School of Law. Matt is passionate about all things related to organizational compliance. He loves the challenge of implementing a best in class compliance program in a highly regulated marketplace, supporting M&A work and conduct compliance due diligence reviews.

Scott Redden joined Meridian Behavioral Health in June of 2016, and, as the Vice President of Human Resources, and brings over 25 years of human resource experiences in varying industries.

Scott Redden joined Meridian Behavioral Health in June of 2016, and, as the Vice President of Human Resources, and brings over 25 years of human resource experiences in varying industries. Most recently, Scott was the Head of Human Resources at BTD, the largest subsidiary of Otter Tail Corporation. Prior to that he held Vice President roles at SunOpta and Agropur, both multinational companies. Scott has also held HR management roles at Dean Foods, Donaldson Company, Pentair, Emerson Electric, and began his human resources career at Healtheast. Scott hold’s a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Speech Communications & Business from the University of Minnesota, and continued his education with a MBA Essentials from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.

When not working, Scott loves spending time at his cabin in the north woods of Minnesota water skiing, swimming, hiking and canoeing with his family, as well as watching his two sons play soccer.

John received his BA in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his MBA in Marketing and Strategic Management University of Minnesota Curtis L. Carlson School of Management.

When not working, John loves playing and watching sports (he played football and baseball in college), spending time with his family and working on his house.

In addition to her experience at UHS, her experience spans work at PSI and the Bobby Benson Center. Elyssia holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Brigham Young University – Hawaii and a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from the University of Phoenix.
