Our Next Workshop: Culturally Attuned Care: Strategies for Integrating Cultural Awareness in Trauma-Informed Practices

June 14, 2024 @ 9:00 am – 3:30 pm

Objectives/Outline

Integrating cultural awareness into trauma-informed care practices is crucial for delivering quality care that utilizes more comprehensive assessment and centered treatment planning and reduces health disparities. This training is designed for licensed addiction and mental health professionals who seek to deepen their understanding of cultural diversity within the context of trauma-informed care. This course focuses on the essential integration of cultural awareness with core clinical practices in treating trauma and co-occurring disorders. In this training, participants will explore how cultural beliefs, values, and practices influence the perception and treatment of trauma and co-occurring disorders. Through interactive workshops, case studies, and expert lectures, attendees will gain practical skills and knowledge to apply culturally informed strategies in their clinical work.

As a Result of the Training Participants will:

  • Understand the manifestation of identity-based victimization and race-based stress and trauma.
  • Understand underlying oppressive psychology in the realm of racism and other inter- and intra-personal forms of oppression (i.e., sexism, homophobia, self-criticism, etc.).
  • Attendees will have the opportunity to identify their strengths and growth areas in promoting and ensuring diversity through self-reflection.
  • Identify and address cultural and systemic barriers that clients may face in accessing trauma-informed care.
  • Develop skills in applying culturally responsive techniques that respect and utilize clients’ cultural strengths in the healing process.

Target Audience

Students, professionals, and leaders across multidisciplinary disciplines, including, but not limited to, addiction counselors, mental health professionals, social workers, and educators. The trainer will present videos, facilitate conversation, and host break-out reflections and discussions to elicit learning.
