Cultural Attunement vs Cultural Diversity

Friday, November 22, 2024 @ 9:00 am – 3:30 pm

Objectives/Outline

For good reason, we are radically reforming mental health and addiction treatment. Appropriate care, however, starts with an informed and mindful provider, as often our own automatic responses can cloud our best clinical judgment. This training is designed for licensed mental health and addiction professionals who seek to understand Cultural Diversity and its role in the treatment facilities and other facilities that treat for addiction.

As a Result of the Training Participants will:

  • Define cultural attunement and recognize its importance in the workplace and broader society.
  • Discuss one’s own cultural biases and assumptions and understand how these impact their interactions with others.
  • Learn the key components of cultural competence, including awareness, knowledge, and skills.
  • Identify and apply strategies for effective communication across cultural differences.
  • Recognize common types of microaggressions as well as implement strategies to mitigate their impact.

Target Audience

Students, professionals, and leaders across multidisciplinary lenses and disciplines, including, but not limited to, addiction and mental health professionals, social workers, and educators.  The trainer will present some videos, facilitate discussions, and host break-out discussions to facilitate learning.
